I talked about it a little, but I couldn't resist telling you more! Coraline is a movie I hold dear to my heart. Not only am I a huge fan of stop-motion animation, but the story itself is magical. A guilty pleasure of mine is sitting down and turning on some cheesy action or horror movie. There’s just something so exhilarating about watching a group of poorly connected friends running through the woods or a major city while trying to escape an alien or weapon-wielding psycho in a mask. I have no desire to ever live out these stories, so please, don’t make me one of those characters. Buzzfeed says I’m a final girl, but I think I’d be the second friend to die, truthfully

Most people do not live in such extremes, we make mistakes, we struggle with choices, and we exist in the middle. In the moral gray area. Maybe that is why we find ourselves drawn to “villains.”

Once I started thinking about it, I couldn't stop noticing it. It almost feels like if you're the main character in a Disney movie, your parents probably aren't going to make it through the story.

I know, I know. So many of you will be completely disappointed in me, especially since I’ve said in the podcast that the books are always better. I still think that, but sometimes, we get a leading guy or gal who just steals the thunder so immensely and powerfully that it has to be acknowledged.

It is tricky to critique how directors and writers chose to show mental health in their stories. In real life, illness does not present consistently between different people. Some people may experience the same things, but that doesn't mean someone else having a different experience is no less valid.

I respect artists. Acting is an art. However, there comes a time when passion is dangerous to the artist themself.

But... something we never knew about our childhood idols was that the vast majority of them went through some pretty horrific things during their time on television.

Now, sometimes they do get it right, but more often than not, they’re dead wrong. I genuinely wish they let normal people send in submissions for the major awards instead of committees. While these committees are made up of supposedly super-qualified officials, they do terrible work almost every award season.

Now don’t get it twisted, this doesn’t mean that Hollywood has completely figured it out yet. There is still plenty of room for them to have more diversity and better represent the LGBTQ+ community, but if were comparing it to where it was in the 1940s, I’d say it's gotten a whole lot better.

Classic Hollywood often did a good job of presenting a narrow and idealized version of American life, while modern filmmaking has slowly expanded representation though not without its challenges.

Each visual effect works with the other to create the perfect picture to represent the story. It captures how the characters feel, sometimes what the characters are thinking, and subconsciously tells you how you should feel.
